October Message from KCARC – Kent County Amateur Radio Club

October arrives with shorter days, crisper evenings, and the kind of fall conditions that often reward HF operators across Kent County. As the season settles in, many members find this a good month to finish antenna work, try portable setups before winter, and enjoy more reliable evening operating time.

Atlantic hurricane season is still underway through November 30. Remarkably, no hurricane has formed in the Atlantic so far in 2026 — an unusually quiet year so far. That said, there is still time. October has produced significant storms in the past, especially in the western Caribbean, Gulf, and western Atlantic. Members are encouraged to stay weather-aware and keep basic station readiness in mind: grounding, surge protection, and backup power. You can quickly check your evacuation zone through Delaware’s Know Your Zone lookup tool at PrepareDE.org. Our Hurricane Preparedness page remains available for updated frequencies and seasonal guidance.

We also want to recognize the continued participation across recent nets, meetings, and club activities. Even with busy schedules and changing weather, KCARC members consistently show commitment, flexibility, and professionalism. Your involvement keeps our club active, resilient, and ready to support both routine operations and emergency communications when needed.

As we move through October, we look forward to steady engagement across all bands and modes. KCARC thrives because of the dedication and enthusiasm of its members, and your contributions keep our community strong throughout the fall season.

Stay safe, stay engaged, and enjoy another great month of amateur radio.
