Vice President's Column

I enjoy helping out where I can. I had the opportunity to visit a Kent County Crime Watch meeting this month at the KC Levy Court and learned a lot. Most of their concerns can be applied to amateur radio and especially the EmComm aspect of amateur radio. Their motto being “see something, say something” is a great motto for emergency groups because it helps relay in the important information where it can be hard for officials to monitor constantly.

For example in Sussex County, at the CODEL Marathon, there were a few medical issues with some runners, most of which were reported via ham radio. We worked hand-in-hand with the Rehoboth Police, Fire, and EMS to be the eyes and ears on the ground reporting for where they couldn’t be.
