“Pop Up” Exercise!

August 25, 2022

Sussex County DE AUXCOMM will be conducting another "Pop Up" exercise on August 25th open to all licensed amateur operators. There will be two operational periods for this exercise so that all can have an opportunity to participate; a morning session from 0900-1100 and an evening session from 1830-2030.

The purpose of this exercise is two-fold. The first is to practice deploying, setting up, and testing communications in a field environment. The second is to promote amateur radio with the general public by demonstrating some of our capabilities in a public area and by distributing supportive information that will be supplied to you in advance of the exercise.
The structure of this exercise is to set up communications in a park, either the closest to your home address or one of your choosing. Your selected location can be within a town, county, state or federal park. Equipment can be mobile or portable, and must be self-powered via vehicle electrical system, battery, quiet generator, and/or solar power. Your operational location must comply with all posted park regulations. Drive in, bike in, hike in, paddle in; whichever suits you!

The goal will be to establish communications with the Sussex County EOC, WS3EOC, either directly via simplex or designated repeater frequencies, which will be forwarded to those who register prior to the exercise. Where simplex communications cannot be directly established, participants will need to identify an intermediate station through which to relay. Both voice and digital modes of communication are encouraged. Participants will be requested to report a specific piece of information as part of the communications exercise, and that directive will be issued during the exercise.

Registration is now open and can be achieved by sending an email to: ws3eoc@gmail.com include 825POP in the subject line, please include; your name, call sign, planned location (if you know it at this time), and your interest in the morning session, evening session, or both.

Further information will be distributed as we get closer to the exercise date.

Get your gear ready, scout your planned location, and stay tuned for more details...
Bill, N3ID
